UPSC exam 2017 notifications out now- Application & Exam Dates

 

Union Public Service Commission commonly known as UPSC is one of the most acknowledged and eagerly waited for the exam in India. Each year millions of students look forward to the test and prepare hard for it. Well, get ready now because the notifications for UPSC exam 2017 are out now. The UPSC, on Wednesday, issued a notification announcing procedure and date for applying for Indian Civil Services Preliminary Examination, 2017 which is available on their official website.


The UPSC exam is expected to fill about 980 vacancies in different departments. 27 vacancies are reserved for P.H. Category, which includes 08 Vacancies for B/LV, 7 vacancies for LDCP, and 12 Vacancies for H.I.

The last date to apply for the preliminary examination is March 17, 2017. The candidates can apply till 6 pm. The exam will be held on June 18, 2017.

Last year the exam was held in August.

The UPSC is a reputed organisation which conduct various type of examinations such as  Combined Defense Services Examination, Naval Academy Examination,  Engineering Services Examination, Indian Forest Service examination, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, Civil Services Examination and Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination.

ELIGIBILITY

The Candidates who wish to apply for the examination should ensure that they must fulfil all eligibility criteria for admission to the examination.

NATIONALITY

For IAS ( Indian Administrative Service ) and IPS (Indian Police Service), a candidate must be a citizen of India.

Candidates applying for other services must either be

(a) a citizen of India

or

(b) a subject of Nepal

or

(c) a subject of Bhutan

or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India,

or

(e)  a person whose origin is Indian and who has migrated from Srilanka, Pakistan, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda,  Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, the United Republic of Tanzania and Vietnam with the intent of permanently settling in India.

AGE

General category

Minimum- 21 years

Maximum- 32 years

OBC category

A relaxation of 3 years is given to OBC candidates.

Maximum – 35 years

SC/ST candidates

A relaxation of 5 years is given to SC/ST candidates.

Maximum- 37 years

PH (Blind, Deaf, Orthopedic)

Maximum age- 42 years.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

The aspiring candidates must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the State or Central Legislature in India or any other educational institutions which are established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under the Section-3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or must possess an equivalent qualification.

Candidates who possess professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by the Government as equivalent to the technical and professional degree are also eligible for admission to the examination.

or

Those Candidates who have passed the final professional M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination but have not completed their internship by the time of submission of their application form for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, will be provisionally admitted to the Examination. But they have to submit a copy of the certificate from the concerned authority of the University/Institution along with their application form that they have passed the requisite final professional medical examination.

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS

General category

Candidates from general category can attempt up to a maximum of 6 number of times till he/she turns 32 years of age.

OBC category

Candidates from OBC category can attempt up to a maximum of 9 number of times till he/she turns 35 years of age.

SC/ST category

Candidates belonging to SC/ST can attempt this exam unlimited number of times till they turn 37 years of age.

PH (Blind, Deaf, Orthopedic)

For general and OBC candidates the maximum number of attempts is 9. For SC/ST there is no limit.

 

FEE

General and OBC category students have to pay Rs 100 (One Hundred Rupees Only) as the exam fee.

Female candidates and those belonging to /SC/ST/PH are exempted from payment of the fee. It means they need not pay any fee at all.

A candidate can pay fee remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/Sate Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/ State Bank of Patiala /State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Travancore.

Candidates can also pay by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.

Note – The fee is non-refundable.

Candidates who are admitted to the Main Examination will have to pay a further fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two hundred only).

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • Candidates will have to complete the Online Application Form which contains two stages viz. Part-I and Part-II as per the instructions provided on the above-mentioned site through drop down menus.
  •  While filling in their Application form, the candidates must carefully decide about their choice of the centre for the Examination. If any applicant appears at a centre other than the one indicated by the Commission in their Admission Certificate, the papers of such applicants will not be evaluated and their candidature will be liable to cancellation.
  • The Candidates are not required to submit any certificate in support of their claims regarding Age, Educational Qualifications, SC/ ST/OBC and Physically disabled etc. along with their applications. All such certificates will be verified at the time of the Main examination only.
  • The Online applications (Part I and II) can be filled from 22nd February 2017 to 17th March 2017 till 6 pm.
  • Candidates must have their photo and signature scanned in jpg format before filling the form. The size should not exceed 40 kb.
  • Candidates should avoid submitting multiple applications.
  • However, if due to any unavoidable reasons any candidate submits multiple applications then they must ensure that the applications with higher RID are complete in all respects.
  • If there is a case of multiple applications, then the applications with higher RID will be entertained by the Commission. The fee paid against one RID shall not be adjusted against any other RID.
  • Provide your valid and active email IDs. Keep checking your e-mails regularly.

EXAM SCHEME

The civil services examination consists of two successive stages.

Stage 1

Preliminary (objective type) for the selection of candidates for the main examination.

Stage 2

Stage 2 will be Civil Services (Main) Examination for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts announced. It will consist of a written exam and an interview round.


In the objective type question paper, there will be negative marking for each wrong answer.

NOTE – Candidates who will pass the preliminary exam will qualify for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination. These candidates will have to apply online again in a new form provided to them. The main examination is expected to be held in October 2017
