What is Common Admission Test:
The Common Admission Test or CAT exam is a national-level management entrance examination held in India. CAT exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). CAT scores are used to get admission in various management institutes across the country. The test is based on Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. In August 2011, it was announced that IITs and IISc would also use the CAT exam scores to select students for their management programs starting with the 2012-14 batch instead of the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET). This exam is the gateway for admission to 19 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and various B-schools located across the country.

CAT 2017 Eligibility
1. Candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% for Scheduled Caste(SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Person With Disability (PWD) categories], awarded by any University or educational institution as incorporated by an Act of the Parliament or State Legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
2. The candidates appearing in the final year of bachelor’s degree and whose results are waiting are also eligible to apply for CAT.
3. Possessing an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India (including the Associate Membership Examination (AMICE) of the Institution of Civil Engineers (India) as an equivalent qualification).
Documents required for CAT 2017 Registration
Cat Candidates will be able to register for CAT 2017 only through online process from 9th August 2017. There is no need to send the application form through offline mode. Candidates have to upload scanned documents such as photograph & signature before registration. The scanned documents related information’s are given below. Candidates should keep the print copy of online submitted Application Form for further references.
1. Scanned Images of photograph and signature in a JPEG Format. |
2. The Photograph dimension should be 35mm X 45mm. The dimension of the signature is 80mm X 35mm. The size of the file should not be more than 80KB each. The photograph should have a white background & not be more than six months old. |
3. 10th/12th/Diploma/Degree Marksheets Details. |
4. Qualification & Work Experience Details. |
5. Scan image of caste certificate (If applicable) in a Pdf format. The caste certificate is self-attested & attested by the appropriate authorities. |
6. Net Banking, Credit Card/Debit Card Details. |
How to Apply for CAT Application Form
Candidates have to follow the given below steps in order to apply for CAT 2017:
1. Go to the official portal |
2. Click on the “Registration for New User” link. |
3. Fill the all the required fields to get User ID and password and turn on ‘I Agree’ box. |
4. After entering the details, click on submit, candidates will receive the User ID & password to their registered email address and mobile number. |
5. Now, candidate has to log in as the “Existing User”. |
6. Fill your User Id and Password and click on Login button. |
7. The candidate has to fill the section of Personal Details, Academics, Work Experience and Programmes. |
8. After filling the programs section, the candidate should make a payment and click on “Save & Continue” button. |
9. Then, you will receive a confirmation email on successful submission of your registration form. |
10. Keep the printout copy of the CAT Registration Form for future use. |

CAT Exam Syllabus
The CAT exam comprises of 100 MCQ question from four sections Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Some of the questions are subjective types. The duration of examination will be 3 hours. There will be also negative marking. For each correct response, 3 marks will be awarded & one mark will be deducted for the incorrect response.
