All freshman applicants must submit a required essay: Topic A in ApplyTexas, or the UT Austin Required Essay in the Coalition application. Please keep your essay between 500700 words (typically two to three paragraphs).
Does UT Austin have supplemental essays?
Yes. You can submit more than 700 words for Essay A and more than 300 for each Short Answer. The UT-Austin Short Answers and Texas A&M Engineering Supplement allow 40 lines of 120 characters each, so that translates to around 400-420 word maximums.

Is ApplyTexas or coalition better?
The Coalition isn’t perfect, but anything is better than that clunky ApplyTexas. Good point. Of course the opposite is true as well. The Coalition can be used at many OOS schools, so if you may save yourself some time by using the Coalition if you’re applying to one of those.
